Notice for Blue Shield Users

Due to the price differences, many Blue Shield members have switched from PPO to HMO. For Blue Shield members, please note that each household has only one ID number and one insurance card. You will only be able to see the name of the policyholder on the card, unless you login online—in which you will be able to see the entire family’s information. This creates much confusion for new enrollees because they worry if the insurance is effective for their family members or if there was a problem with the enrollment process.

To resolves these concerns, it is suggested to register online with your ID number so that you could confirm that all your family members are enrolled and that the date of birth, name, gender, mailing address, and all other information are correct. With their online system, you will also have access to your benefits plan and information about your primary physician. You will also be able to set up monthly automatic payment options online.

Many Blue Shield users have noticed that Allied Pacific IPA is not their current network after switching from another insurance carrier into the Blue Shield insurance plan. At KCAL, we can help you save time from avoiding long waits on the phone by helping you change your network easily based on your preferences to ensure that you will be able to see the same doctors you were seeing before.

Notice for Health Net Users

Unlike Blue Shield, for policyholders under Health Net, each insured individual under the policy will have his or her own insurance card.

Many Health Net users were asked to choose a primary physician at the time of payment, possibly causing them to choose a doctor that was not the one they originally wanted to see. With that being said, make sure you check who your primary physician is before going to the doctor.

For previous Health Net users, you might have had an insurance number that began with an “R”. In 2018, the insurance number will now begin with a “U”. If you have not received your insurance card yet, make sure to contact your insurance company immediately so that the doctor’s office you’re visiting will be able to find your insurance information.

If you have not received your insurance card yet, take initiative immediately and check if you missed something during the insurance process!

The first step you need to take is to check if the payment for your premium has been processed. Sometimes when the insurance company tries to withdraw money from your bank, they get rejected for various reasons. With that being said, make sure to check that the bank account information you provided is accurate. If the premium payment successfully went through but you still have not received your insurance card, then you can ask for your insurance card to be mailed again. If you made the payment in the last few days of the deadline, then you might want to wait a few more days because usually, the insurance card will take more than two weeks to be mailed out and for you to receive it.

When you receive your insurance card, confirm that:
  • All the insured’s personal information is correct
  • The correct family members are insured
  • The benefits plan is accurate
  • The medical network and doctors are correct
  • The amount of subsidies you are receiving is reflected accurately
For individuals who have not received their insurance card, confirm that the:
  • Bank account information is correct
  • Insured’s mailing address is correct
  • Insured’s personal information is correct

Did you change insurance carriers? You might have some changes to make!

This year, if you transferred from one insurance company to another through Covered California, make sure you’re not being charged extra. If you bought insurance with subsidies in 2017 but without subsidies in 2018, you would have to send a cancellation letter to Covered California to notify them of your subsidy cancellation.

As a friendly reminder, everyone’s insurance needs are different. If you run into issues such as high premiums, doctors and medical networks are not meeting your standards, etc., please remember to change your insurance plans by January 31st.

Whether it’s changing your insurance plan, not receiving your insurance card, etc., please feel free to contact KCAL Insurance Agency immediately and our professional and licensed insurance agents will be there to help you with any of your insurance needs.
