The 2019 Open Enrollment Period for individual health insurance has officially begun!

On the afternoon of November 12th, Executive Director of Covered California, Peter Lee, visited the KCAL headquarters in Hacienda Heights as one stop of their Covered California open enrollment bus tour. Chief Strategy Officer of KCAL, Angela Chang, along with representatives from various health insurance companies and medical networks, attended the event.

Since 2013, more than 3.7 million Californians have purchased health insurance. In the 6th open enrollment period, in order to encourage more individuals to enroll into health insurance and to remind individuals to renew their insurance or make any changes to their plans and save on premiums, Covered California is going on a bus tour once again, that will last for 10 days and will travel more than 1600 miles.

Peter Lee also mentioned that the Chinese community is an important factor in the success of Covered California. He mentioned how KCAL Insurance is a model in serving the Chinese community and promoting Covered California. They have collaborated with Covered California for five years now—not only in enrolling individuals into health insurance and raising the number of insured, but also playing an important leadership role in educating the community about health care.

In 2013, KCAL collaborated with well-known YouTubers, Fung Bros, to create a music video on health care reform to inform the public and the younger generation about Obamacare. In the past five years, KCAL has designed and provided free insurance info guides and pamphlets as well as hosted health insurance seminars and health fairs, all free of charge to the community. KCAL has also produced a lot of 1-minute videos providing quick health insurance tips that broadcast on TV, radio, social media, and many more.

At the start of the 2019 Open Enrollment Period, KCAL created a series of TV commercials that were based on characters from the popular Chinese television drama known as “Story of Yanxi Palace”. The focus of KCAL’s theme for this year’s open enrollment is “延禧華興-沒保險好危險” which translates to “life without insurance is a risky life.” Angela Chang also mentioned that KCAL is not just here to sell insurance but it is to share the importance of health insurance and to educate the community on healthcare, including the possible outcomes life would be like without insurance. KCAL’s theme for open enrollment this year pairs well with that of Covered California’s, which is, “Life can change in an instant.

Friendly reminder! This year’s open enrollment period for health insurance has begun! If you would like your insurance policy to be effective on January 1st of next year, then you must apply or make changes by December 15. It’s also important to make sure that the doctors you want to see are included in your medical network.
