Fire-and-casualty Licensees got More Time to Gain Health Insurance License

The California Department of Insurance is delaying for six months the implementation of a new licensing requirement for fire and casualty licensees that want to sell health insurance. The six-month extension means that fire and casualty broker-agents licensed prior to Dec. 31, 2010 will now have until June 30, 2011 to obtain the accident and health agent license to continue to transact accident and health insurance. The extension applies to both individuals and business entities as well as to both California residents and nonresidents.

AB 2782 would have required existing fire-and-casualty licensees to obtain a separate license by Jan. 1, 2011, to continue selling health insurance. The Producer Licensing Bureau will be sending this notice to all licensed fire and casualty broker-agents soon.
