2007 San Diego fire fines

Under a settlement approved by the California Public Utilities Commission, San Diego Gas & Electric Co. will pay $14.4 million to the State and CoxCom Inc. will pay $2 million because of the role that downed wires played in sparking the disastrous 2007 fires that swept through northern San Diego County. The wind-driven Witch, Rice and Guejito fires destroyed more than 1,500 homes.
