Health insurance linked with healthier habits

According to an analysis based on the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, Americans who have health insurance are more likely to exercise and eat better and less likely to smoke than those who are uninsured. The index tracks well-being in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany and is based on 200,000 interviews of 18- to 64-year-olds conducted in the first 10 months of last year. Among those who have health insurance, 56 percent had at least five servings of fruits and vegetables at least four days in the last week, compared to 50 percent of those without insurance.
