Medicare to allow using its data to rate doctors, hospitals

The federal government announced Monday that employers, insurance companies and consumer groups will be able to use Medicare's database on physicians'performing. Medicare followed through in regulations of Obama's overhaul reform. The first performance report will be released to the public in late 2012. Since there is tremendous variation in how well doctors do, such release will make health care more transparent, accountable and also promote competition.
