Flood Insurance
When Congress went into recess at the end of March, it failed to reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program. It expired on March 28th. This is not the first time the program has been temporarily suspended, as it has to be reauthorized every so often. In fact, the program was unavailable for two days last month. The spate of suspensions recently is the result of disagreements between the Senate and the House about what the program should look like in the future. Most experts believe that Congress will likely pass some kind of extension next week when its recess ends or in the coming weeks as it tries to work out its differences. In the meantime, the expiration of the program will have no impact on existing policies. But it will cause problems for people trying to get new policies, those seeking additional coverage and others whose policies have expired. New York Times
