Michigan Democrats oppose auto insurance changes
Michigan now is the only state that mandates uncapped medical benefit coverage for people seriously injured in auto accidents. A new proposal in consideration would instead let motorists choose among $500,000, $1 million or $5 million in personal injury protection coverage. Although Republicans support the proposed changes, saying that it would offer choices and lower premiums, Democrats say that motorists opting for less coverage could wind up underinsured and in financial trouble if they’re seriously injured.
