Covering maternity care in California
Instead of waiting for the provision in Affordable Care Act to take effect in 2004, two bills, SB 222 and AB 210, which require maternity coverage to be included in comprehensive policies as of July 1, 2012 were passed in California last month. This will bring maternity coverage to California women who don't have it now. SB222 applies to the market for individual policies, and AB 210 applies to small group health plans. The cost of new plans in short term is estimated to bring up premiums by less than $7 per month per policy.
