Study: 354,000 Tennesseans lost employer-provided health insurance in past decade

In the last decade, the number of employer-provided insurance cases dropped largely. And those who still had coverage ended up paying much more for coverage. Study by the nonprofit Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found that 354,000fewer Tennesseans had their health insurance covered by the employers, almost a drop of 10% compared to the figure in 1999. Among these 354,000 people, around 3 percent turned to public or non-group policies. However, the state's uninsured rate still jumped from 9.9% in 1999 to 17.1% in 2009. In a nation's wide, around 7.3million people lost employee-sponsored plan in 2009 than that in 1999 and more than half of that came from middle-class families.
